Hey Guys,

now a new owner of an LS400 Celsior, and am currently extremely happy with the car, build quality is something else :D

now ive seen a few tow hitch kits around, but im looking at something that could tow a light car/trailer, im sure the toyota V8 has enough punch to do it. its just finding a place that makes tow kits for the cars, or a company that can make custom kits.

any help would be greatly appreciated, can be in Melb or Adelaide, im in the middle of both cities :)

cheers

Phil

Isnt LS400 the name for the Lexus model and the Toyota's were called celsiors?

my guess is you will need something higher than 1500kg's and will battle to find a tow bar with a tow rating high enough to tow something like a 1200kg Nissan and a trailer....remember to tow a 1200kg car you would want at least a 500+kg trailer, good luck!

alot more info here as well:

id say custom will be your only shot, Hayman Reese dont list an off the shelf item for the Celsiors or LS400's.

More info i found for you:

also of people are saying to fit a larger trans oil cooler and ditching the airbags and going for coil overs (some say its ok with air bags)

might go for that hayman reese item, and beef it up a little at a local engineers, at least then its tagged if i get checked up on it. ill look into a trans cooler kit, nothing fancy of course, all tow cars should have one fitted. will stay with the bags til they work no more :P 1000 a corner for bags isnt worth it

hey!

that was me!

:P

i'm thinkin of buying another Celly soon...Hall's Towbar's will be the first place i take it.

it cost me $500 for the heaviest duty mutherf**ker they could fit under the back of it.

had no problem towing car's interstate either.

imagine 4 guys, Adelaide to Brisbane, 24hrs straight, towing a racecar.

now imagine it at 160kph ;) that was us :P

I've found conflicting stuff from google on what the max towing capacity of the LS400/Celcior is some sites say 2000kg some say 2000lbs. The only tow bar kit I've found so car is $500 fitted but only rated to 1000kg which is totally useless for towing a car. Can anyone whos owned or owns one confirm the max capacity?

Cheers!

I had one one mine. It towed a car fine but was only rated to 1000kg

Wasnt going to risk going interstate so sold up and bought a commodore with 2250 tow bar

Had more people interested in the tow bar than the car lol

I read some where it was about 1600kg, I tow my ke70 with mine all the time. I have had a custom towbar made that bolts to the chassis rails at the rear and goes under the centre of the car and bolts up in front of the spare wheel well. It's pretty similar to a commodore heavy duty tow bar.

Yeh so basically sounds like we're screwed if we think we're going to tow 2k kg to Wakefield and back on any sort of regular basis then?

Try Sydney Tow Bars.

Pretty sure they do custom heavy duty ones.
